If you're not sure, think about what you did on your last few breaks that you enjoyed most. If it was a beach day, book coastal. If it was a quiet walk or a pub lunch somewhere green, the countryside or Broads setting is probably the better fit for this trip.

Off-peak months help enormously too. School Lincolnshire coast holidays and the height of summer are when demand is tightest, so a late booking in May, September or October usually has far more choice than the same search in late July. The weather isn't guaranteed either way, but a coastal or countryside break in early autumn can be genuinely pleasant, with quieter paths and shorter queues wherever you stop for lunch.

If you're bringing a dog, check the pet policy before you book rather than after. Parks vary on which units accept dogs, whether there's a charge, and whether there are walking areas on site. It's a five-minute check that saves a difficult phone call later.

Getting three generations away together takes a bit more planning than a standard family trip, but a holiday park set-up handles it better than most people expect.

Self-catering is the biggest single saving available. A static caravan holiday, with its own kitchen, means you're choosing when to cook and when to treat yourselves to eating out, rather than paying restaurant prices for every meal of the trip by default. For a family or group of any size, this alone tends to be the single biggest saving compared with a hotel-based break, where every meal usually comes at hotel prices.

Finally, ask about parking, whether each unit has its own space or whether you're sharing a car park a short walk away, particularly if you're arriving with a car full of luggage and a young family in tow.
